Waterton’s Wall Through the Year

In early 2025, I attended a meeting of the Friends of Waterton’s Wall as a representative of Wakefield Camera Club who had been invited to be involved in Wallfest 2026 to celebrate the Wall’s 200 year anniversary.  During that meeting, ideas of how we could work together were discussed and one idea stuck with me – the idea of photographing parts of the wall throughout the year to see how the changing seasons were reflected in the Wall.

We arranged a guided walk with Barbara Phipps and she showed the Camera Club around the Wall.  From this walk, I selected several spots around the Wall where I thought we would see the impact of the seasonal changes.

In May 2025, I completed my first walk, photographing the parts of the Wall I had identified plus some other interesting elements of the Wall.  Each month from then until April 2026, I completed the same walk, taking photos of the same points in the Wall at around the same time of day.

Completing my final walk in April 2026, in time for Wallfest 2026, I then had several hundred photographs to edit, print and display but my aim had been achieved, and the changing seasons were clearly shown in the series of images from each point of the Wall.
